Bury a bottle of bourbon, completely full, upside down, at your outdoor ceremony site to ensure good weather on your wedding day! Mitchell and Kelly made a special trip from California recently to do so at HollyOaks on the Marsh in Savannah, Georgia. Southern tradition says that if the bride and groom bury the bourbon, they will have no rain. Well, the planners of Swanson Signature Events do not know whether it always works, but today is the day, and the forecast is sunny and 70!
The Couple
Kelly and Mitchell have been together for nearly seven years. It is time for them to become husband and wife! Kelly is a born and raised New Yorker. Mitchell is a Texan who adopted California as his home. Their bi-coastal relationship encouraged good communication through text, email, phone calls, and facetime. Fortunately, Mitchell’s position working for a tech start-up allowed him to work in NYC often. Mitchell eventually moved east to be with Kelly only for Kelly to get a fantastic job in California. After they say, “I do,” the couple will return to their California home. Kelly says she is adjusting…happily!
The Venue
HollyOaks on the Marsh is a private, low country estate in Savannah, Georgia. The restored 80-year-old mansion house is nestled amidst the live oaks on an 18-acre estate. Kelly, Mitchell, and their loved ones will enjoy the exquisite luxury of this unique venue under sunny skies followed by a blanket of stars thanks to their adherence to this Southern Tradition.
The Bourbon
Brendan of Shaken and Stirred Mixology chose the award winning Liberty Pole Straight Bourbon crafted by Liberty Pole Spirits of Washington, Pennsylvania for the event. “One of [their] flagship products, Liberty Pole Bourbon seeks to highlight the unique variety of corn, known as Bloody Butcher, while providing a complex whiskey that [stands] with the best. By using wheat as a flovoring grain, the bourbon remains soft and mellow. Distilled on [their] traditional pot still, [they] meticulously monitor the cuts to balance flavor and complexity.” She will be exhumed today following the ceremony and shared by the Bride, Groom, and their loved ones.
