Catie and Brad had a big wedding planned at the DeSoto in downtown Savannah last spring. Like with so many couples this year, spring weddings moved to summer, and summer weddings moved to fall (or even further). The growing uncertainty made it difficult for many couples to stick to a date. So, after postponing yet a second time, Catie and Brad made the oh so difficult decision to elope and move their big reception out a year. The result was a beautiful elopement at Jekyll Island Club Resort, but it took quite the planning to get them there.
A New Plan
By the time Catie’s mom called us explaining that they had decided to postpone again, we were three weeks from their wedding day. Elderly members of their family couldn’t travel. Guests coming from all over would have to quarantine first. Catie and Brad were fearful, but they were also trying to be thoughtful. They wanted to still get married, but they didn’t know how it could be elegant and sophisticated with such a small group of people. They didn’t know where to begin.
So, there we were. We’d gone from a larger wedding to a micro wedding for just immediate family. We had to turn around and give them something completely different from what was planned, and we had three weeks to do it. Renee Peterson, their wedding planner, immediately started contacting all their vendors.
Anna Swanson, our design guru, contacted Jekyll Island Club Resort about bringing them and their family down to Jekyll for the weekend. Even though the resort dining room was closed, we got them a private dining room and styled it for their private dinner of 14 guests.
Intimate Jekyll Island Club Resort Wedding
The Jekyll Island Club Resort is a private club on Jekyll Island, which is off Georgia’s Atlantic coast. It was built in 1887, and parts of the Club are national historical landmarks. Catie and Brad got married on the lawn overlooking the water.
There was a huge downpour of rain an hour before the wedding, but Catie was in a great mood as she prepared for her wedding day. Luckily, the weather worked out for their ceremony, and their intimate candlelit dinner after was beautiful.
Some Amazing Wedding Vendors
Carlson & Co. did an amazing job on their florals. The classic white blooms really popped against the navy linens and gold accents provided by Beachview Event Rentals.
As a gift to them after everything they’d been through, Anna had Lowcountry Paper Co. create custom hand-lettered menu cards and escort cards in the bride’s favorite color of teal in a watercolor design to mimic their waterfront ceremony. (Brad also proposed by diving into the water, so there was definitely a water theme going!)
Meredith Ryncarz did an amazing job capturing their petite wedding day, and they were so happy with how everything turned out. Their wedding was also featured on Plans and Presents!
We can’t wait to host Catie and Brad and all of their family and friends on the same weekend in 2021 for their big wedding celebration!
We were so happy to be able to organize everything for Catie and Brad, so they could focus on their special day at Jekyll Island Club Resort. They really deserved to relax and enjoy. We’d love to do the same for you.
