Finding the perfect wedding cake artist is an important part of planning a wedding. The wedding cake is not only a delicious treat but also the centerpiece of the reception. The cutting of the wedding cake remains a signficant moment during a wedding reception. Your wedding cake artist can create one just for the two of you. One artist we have enjoyed getting to know is Stephanie Chain of Sweet Luncheonette.
Stephanie, the Wedding Cake Artist
Stephanie Chain is the founder of Sweet Luncheonette, a Micro Bakery specializing in bespoke wedding cakes in Historic Saint Marys, GA. She holds a BA in Agribusiness, and during Culinary Arts School a chef encouraged her to go back and get her pastry arts degree because he saw such promise in her skills.
An autism diagnosis for her daughter left Stephanie needing a more flexible work and life schedule so that her daughter’s therapy could be a priority. Stephanie blazed her own trail so she could stay home with her daughter while also continuing the creative passion she loves best.
Initially, Sweet Luncheonette started with elementary baked goods like cookies and scones that she sold at local farmer’s markets. Only nine months later Stephanie received her first request to make a wedding cake.
Sweet Luncheonette was soon selling a wide variety of baked goods while fulfilling catering orders. A mentor encouraged Stephanie to choose one direction, and she chose cakes. We sure are glad too!
Swanson Signature Events at Sweet Luncheonette
Jennifer and Miranda of Swanson Signature Events spent a lovely afternoon with Stephanie. They experienced a typical tasting that any client would enjoy. Throughout the wedding planning process, our planners guide our couples in choosing every element of the wedding. It is our responsibility to know many top tier creative partners including wedding cake artists. Jennifer and Miranda certainly loved trying those beautiful and delicious cakes while enjoying Stephanie’s sweet company.
Wedding Cake with Sweets
Stephanie’s first wedding cake was for a wedding at Villa Ospo in 2017. It was a three-tier, semi-naked almond pound cake with fresh florals. Today, one of her favorite flavors to make is the “Black Tie ”. It is a black devil’s food cake with white and Belgian black semi-sweet ganache with cocoa crumb and vanilla buttercream. It’s delicious!
Because all of Stephanie’s cake recipes are made from scratch and tested to perfection, she can also work with a variety of food allergies and intolerances. For couples looking for something a little less traditional, there are many kinds of delicious alternatives to create a buffet of mini sweets like mousse, macarons, cannolis, cookies, and even the French croquembouche
Wedding Cake Artist Sketches
Stephanie uses the same creative design process for each couple:
- Gather any inspirational photos from the couple’s other wedding elements (bridal gown, florals, paper goods, colors… anything but the cake).
- Sketcn cake designs in black and white. Due to digital colors differing from screen to screen, color descriptions are written to the side.
- Once the sketches are complete, the couple approves, and when the time is right, she gets to work in the kitchen to bake the cake!
It’s all in the Details
As a Wedding Cake Artist, Stephanie focuses on both the cake and the art. Her sugar flowers, gumpaste flowers, and sculpted wafer paper create such a glorious bouquet, there will be no need to ask the florist for extra blooms. Stephanie creates them herself!
